Future of Families Summer Data Workshop is now accepting applications!

Nov. 15, 2023

The Columbia Population Research Center is accepting applications for the 2024 Future of Families Summer Data Workshop to be held the week of June 12-14, at Columbia University in New York City. The application deadline is Monday, February 19, 2024 at 11:59 PM EST.

The workshop is designed to familiarize participants with the data available in the Future of Families and Child Wellbeing Study, a national study following a birth cohort of (mostly) unmarried parents and their children, providing information about the capabilities, circumstances, and relationships of unwed parents, the wellbeing of their children, and the role of public policy in family and child wellbeing.

Substantive areas covered include, but are not limited to, family structure, health, education, economic resources and activity, system involvement (e.g., criminal legal system, foster care, child support), the transition to adulthood, and many others.

The workshop targets early-career scholars from social and health science disciplines. We particularly encourage applications from junior faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students using the Future of Families data in their doctoral dissertations. Underrepresented scholars are strongly encouraged to apply. About 25 applicants will be selected. Travel support will be available for accepted out-of-town candidates. The Future of Families Summer Data Workshop is made possible by a grant from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health & Human Development (5R25HD074544).
