John Krinjak from ABC6 News, Providence, RI, interviewed Jayanti Owens about her findings on racial disparities in school discipline. Looking at approximately 5,000 elementary students across the country, Owens and FFCWS Co-PI Sara McLanahan concluded African-American students are four times more likely to be suspended or expelled than their white counterparts.
