Objective
This study examined the association between abortion consideration in pregnancy and mothers{\textquoteright} and fathers{\textquoteright} perceptions of supportive coparenting over time among families from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study.
Design
Using multiple linear regressions, this study examined the association between parents{\textquoteright} retrospective reports at the time of their child{\textquoteright}s birth of their abortion consideration during pregnancy and perceptions of supportive coparenting when their focal child was 3, 5, and 9 years old. Parental sociodemographic characteristics were examined as moderators of the associations.
Results
Consideration of abortion was associated with mothers{\textquoteright} reports, and to a lesser degree, fathers{\textquoteright} reports of less supportive coparenting over time. Although not consistent across time, interactions between abortion consideration and mother age, education, and relationship status were associated with mothers{\textquoteright} reports of coparenting.
Conclusion
Abortion consideration in pregnancy may be associated with less supportive coparenting over time. The results have implications for services aimed at couples facing pregnancy decisions and the transition to parenthood.
